Notice a few key criteria on display by the winner:

✔️ Proportion: upper body a bit more developed than bikini, but lower body is definitely dominant. This division is not about balance!
.
✔️ She’s NOT just some soft bikini girl!! She is well conditioned - again similar to bikini - but no deep separation (and certainly no striation or hardness) like Figure or WP.
.
✔️ These legs aren’t just thick - they are well developed. Quads, glutes, and hamstrings are all much more developed than we’d see in bikini. She has depth to her legs - you can see in her quarter turns that her hams and quads are as prominent as her glutes!
.
✔️ Her suit and overall look. She’s wearing a bikini with connectors but they are placed high on the hips which really flatters the Wellness physique. Hair, makeup, and tan are what we’d see in bikini: very feminine.

After college, John took on a career in Law Enforcement with the Harris County Sheriff’s Department as a Deputy Sheriff/ Boot Camp Drill Instructor. In 1992, while working a full time job, John won the light heavy weight, Most symmetrical and overall title at the Men’s National Bodybuilding Championships in Atlanta, Georgia, becoming one of the youngest competitors to earn a pro card at the prestigious event.
During the course of his professional career, John also took on the promotional aspect of the sport by promoting The John Sherman Classic. At the same time he began judging NPC Texas shows, and running his own personal training business. With his almost 30 years of experience and vast knowledge in the fitness industry, his clients range from professional athletes, senior citizens, fitness enthusiast, as well as kids of all ages

This is a photo from the 1993 Mr. Olympia. I didn’t place well at this particular event. It wasn’t because I wasn’t conditioned, I was! Or that anything was wrong. I didn’t place well for few reasons

1. I competed in 5 events before this show, so I may not have been as sharp as everyone else
2. The guys that placed ahead of me were BETTER THAN ME ON THAT DAY.

After that show, we did the #europeantour, which consisted of 8 more shows in 1 month.

Did I ask the judges for feedback? NO! I KNEW when pics and video came out, I could compare myself to those that placed ahead of me. At that point, I could go back to the lab and make the necessary adjustments to place better!!

Did I think I wasn’t judged correctly, NO! We all look like winners when we stand alone, looking at ourselves in the mirror. The judges actually see all of the competitors at once, allowing them to choose the best competitor on that day. The judges have a better eye view than you do.

Did family and friends tell me I should have done better? Of course. Were they correct? HELL NO! Never listen to family and friends after a show. They don’t have the heart to tell you that you were off or not ready. THAT’S WHAT JUDGES ARE FOR!! Like it or not, there no politics or favorites on the judging panels. Moral to the story, BRING YOUR BEST and leave it that. If you do that, #lethtechipsfallwheretheymay. Lesson for the day #carryon ...

My last time stepping on stage. I gave it all I had @ 50 years of age. 34 years of bodybuilding competitions. 28 of those years as a pro! My passion for this sport had zero to do with motivation, and everything to do with discipline and repetition!!! Did I win every show, #HELLNO! Guess what? I didn’t care.
